Benjamin F Villa Park , IL January 09, 2022 Appliance: General Electric Gas Range JGBS07PEH1WW 1 burner was not igniting the sparker on a low end 20 year old GE stove. Rather than replacing the whole ignition switch harness, I cut out the broken switch and replaced it with Burner Ignition Switch WB24K10017 / AP2632529. Wire stripper, small wire nuts, and electrical tape were also used. At first, the new switch was constantly on when the knob was in the off position. The gas valve shaft has a "U" shape. When the U is right side up, the gas is off and so should the igniter. The gas valve shaft position couldn't be changed, so instead, I re-mounted the switch in what is definitely the upside-down position. So when the U-shaped shaft was up, the igniter is off. And when the U-shaped shaft is down (knob cranked all the way counterclockwise), the igniter is on. Perhaps the switch specs have changed, but there was no other way to do it. Reversing the wiring made no difference. I thought about cracking the switch open based on looking at the old switch, but decided simply turning the switch over would produce the same results. Upside down, the switch didn't engage 100% with the face of the gas valve, but it did settle into position and with the cover back on the stove, you cannot tell or feel that it is in upside down. The middle two-burner knobs have a mounting bracket in front of the switch + the gas valve. Normally there is a paper dust cover over the shaft of the gas valve, but with the switch mounted upside down, it sits a couple of mm further out. This precluded reinstalling the dust cover so that the knob would turn easily. This may mean debris may find its way into the switch, but that seemed a pretty low potential for a problem. The stove is working fine now, 5 days, no problems. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
