Ge WH44X20021 Lid Asm Finished-Serv OEM Part

Removing and Replacing (R&R) the parts took about 15 minutes. Getting the correct parts took several weeks. It was a severe struggle. Many of you will experience problems trying to get the correct "Lid" for similar GE washing machine models. AppliancePartsPros.com was great: Right price, Arrived quickly in good condition. I got the wrong part. It was not the fault of AppliancePartsPros.com, though. To make a long story short, GE has disseminated incorrect data in parts lists and it seems that all vendors are victimized as a result. Naturally, the customers at the end of the distribution chain suffer as well. It took several weeks of study, phone calls, ordering, returning, and analyzing in order to finally get the correct part. Call the factory you say? I did that. GE repeated over and over that the part number I needed was WH44X20022. Nope. They are wrong with regards to my S5100D0WW and several other similar models. Most frustrating was the fact that GE could not pull up mechanical drawings or other spec sheets that would let me verify dimensions. That would have been really valuable information. I ordered the part number they said should be correct but it was wrong. Now, at that point, I needed to know if someone put the wrong part in the box or if the parts list is specifying the incorrect part number. That's when I had no choice but to order, return, analyze about 20 different models for lids that fit my WH44X21834 top cover, then reorder my best guess, , and so forth. You can follow along at AppliancePartsPros.com by entering my model number S5100D0WW (all 0 are numeral zero). Many, many models of GE machines have this same error, so, you might benefit from my posting here even though you don't have the same machine. So, you've gone to the S5100D0WW parts list. Now go to the diagram titled "Cabinet, Cover, and Front Panel Parts." In that list, you'll see that #391 is called a "top cover" while #394 is called a "lid." If you need a lid to fit into "top cover" number WH44X21834, then the lid you need is NOT WH44X20022, though many parts lists at all vendors say that is so. If you are following along at the AppliancePartsPros.com site (AP) the part number shown in the list is AP part number. Click on that part number to go to another page the translates that AP number to the GE part number. It then says the correct lid is WH44X20022. But, no. Don't order that. If you order WH44X20022, you will get a lid that looks like it is for a miniature machine. If you want the lid that actually fits top cover WH44X21834, then you need the lid number WH44X20021. The difference is that last digit. The lid with part number ending in numeral 2 is a miniature compared to the part you need that ends in 1. The part number WH44X20021 measures 19 1/8" x 15 5/8". That's the key information you might not find anywhere else--even at GE. Now, for all lists, you will have to check for "supersedures" until you finally arrive at the latest part number. For some machines, the lid part number and the top cover part number have been superseded several times. Nice thing about AppliancePartsPros.com site is that it will give, in a relatively easy fashion, all the older and newer numbers for a particular part. I've seen several postings around the web on this part number mismatch. There is even a posting at AppliancePartsPros.com about this same problem. Good luck to you. I hope I've helped someone.

I bought and replaced the top and the lid for the washer. The washer now looks like a brand new washer even though it’s 12 years old. Total repair took less than an hour.

I took screwdriver and unscrewed screws and removed old lid and also magnet installed left hinge first back to old lid and magnet then put in long hinge pin in hinge holder pushed in as far as it would go then screwed short hinge pin to right side of lid after putting pin in to holder

It was easy to take out a few screws and replace the old rusting lid with this new one. (I had tried repainting the old lid once, but that fix didn't last very long.) The only problem I had was with the magnet in the lid that activates the safety switch, which allows the washer to run only when the lid is closed. The new lid had a magnet installed, but it was smaller than the old magnet and did not activate the switch. Fortunately it wasn't too hard to remove the old magnet and install it on the new lid.

Just unscrewed the existed screws, slid off the lid and replaced with the new lid. Super easy to install
