Mike W Kingsport , TN January 18, 2017 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave SCA1001HSS01 2004 cook top ge adantium 120 microwave was not working properly; power was on to unit but progressively it stopped heating food properly; Suspected Magnetron failure so I ordered replacement. Unplugged unit and let it sit for a couple of days. Removed it from the wall/range top mounting Removed cover. Unplugged terminals to capacitor; one at a time; carefully kept leads away from each other There were (4) main screws holding the magnetron in position; removed those. Removed the thermal sensor that was attached to the magnetron housing Re-attached the thermal sensor to new magnetron housing Re-attached the new magnetron. Connected the terminals back to the capacitor; one at a time; red or "hot" first, then white neutral next; there was no sparking or discharge; I did NOT discharge the capacitor either; a concern going in, but the terminals to the capacitor were recessed into protection tubes and not accessible with the tools I had; I did wear hand and eye PPE throughout the process. Replaced burned out internal light bulb Re-attached housing and front vent grill. Tested unit with popcorn on counter; all systems OK Remounted unit back into position over cooktop Read More...
