Diane H Germantown , TN July 05, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Electric Range JKP27WW2WW Old seal broken heating element about to burn through To fix the seal, took out 5 screws around the inside front of the oven. Lowered broiler heating element from hanging hooks that held it up, and pulled the inner metal shell outwards about 1/4 of an inch or 3/8 inch. (It helps you pull the shell forwards if the hooks holding the broiler element are not holding it back.) Slid out the old seal and put in new one. The thicker edge of the seal is what gets trapped between the two metal shells, and the flexible, curved part sticks out. Push shell back, put screws back in, then put broiler element back on its hooks. EASY. To change bake heating element DISCONNECT POWER (either unplug or flip circuit breakers off. If your oven is hard wired in, you MUST use circuit breaker or fuse to make this safe.) Remove (2) bolts. Disconnect (2) wire connectors - be sure to hold each wire/gently bend so that it doesn't get lost behind the back wall. To install, re-crimp wire connectors to prevent sloppy contact with heating element, then re-install (2) connectors. Re-install (2) bolts. Put power back on. There are good videos online that demonstrate this. Read More... 6 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers, Wrench Set
