Tobe B Northfield , MN January 08, 2017 Appliance: General Electric Washer WHRE5550K2WW Detached agitator (infusor) on ge model whre5550k2ww The screw that holds the agitator in place appeared to have worn and rusty threads. I tried to replace it with a standard hardware store 1/4-20 hex head screw but that wouldn't grip. I had thoughts of needing to tap the hole, but eventually bought the specified screw, which is a specialist. It has tapered threads, a shoulder, rubber bushings, an attached washer and a hex head. I spent a lot of time trying other things but when the real part arrived it only took a few minutes to set it in place. BTW -- I never found a write-up anywhere on this specific issue. Steve W Riverside , CA August 29, 2021 Appliance: General Electric Washer WHRE5550K2WW This was a GE washer that made a distressing grinding/scraping sound during the wash cycle, the other cycles were not affected I ordered three parts from Appliance Parts Pros, a new agitator, coupling pulsator, (the column that the agitator sits on) and the screw to fasten the agitator down (total cost about $100). The old parts were removed, examined and cleaned. They were still functioning, so they were put back in place until the new ones arrived. Upon arrival, the new parts were installed and the machine went back into action with no unusual sound at all. The most difficult part was removing and cleaning the fabric softener cup that sits on top of the agitator (I used the handle ends of a pair of pliers) and removing the old coupling post which was stuck fast in place because of solidified detergent. With advice from the Appliance phone techs, I was able to loosen the post by running hot water around and through the column. For virtually every question I asked, the techs had an immediate answer and should be highly commended! Robert L Denver , CO February 15, 2018 Shaft and bearing. OK kids, pay attention! This was my second attempt @ this repair. My first repair started leaking right away and had to be re-done about 6 months later. HERE IS THE PROBLEM!. In the video, you'll notice that (while putting it back together) when you put the square hole washer and split-ring over the shaft, they look to land atop the rubber seal, buy when you do this in real life, there is a gap between the seal and the washer. (This gap was close to a 1/4 inch). I THINK that the first time I was just doing what I saw on the video and not really THINKING about what I was doing and if there was a gap then, may have just left it as such and therefore allowed the SEAL TO MOVE. Thus, the leak. THIS TIME, I payed attention to THE JOB, and realized this gap would not allow the seal to be secure (as the washer and ring are designed to do). MY REMEDY was to put some galvanized washers over the seal to allow the square-holed washer to apply slight pressure as I think it should. WELL, So far there is no leaking this time and I hope that was the reason, the solution , and that this will be helpful. Another helpful (time-saving) tip. Use a socket the size of the bearing for removal. Set the socket on the bearing and use a good size hammer, KABAM!, it's out. Good Luck! Read More...
