Description
The Hi-Limit Thermostat is an OEM part for GE dryers. Located inside the motor housing, this safety device senses heat levels and protects the dryer from overheating.
During a dryer's operation, the motor generates heat through its movements. The hi-limit thermostat monitors the temperature around the motor to prevent dangerously high heat from developing. If conditions cause excessive warmth, it opens the circuit to instantly cut power to the motor and stop further heating.
Causes of a faulty thermostat can include regular wear over time reducing its precise heat-sensing, overheating damage taking place internally, or impacts affecting the calibration.
Symptoms of a bad hi-limit thermostat include:
- The dryer failing to start or stop mid-cycle
- Fuses or breakers repeatedly blowing during use
- A burnt/melting plastic smell emanating from the motor
It is also compatible with some Kenmore dryers that contain GE internals.
