John K Midland , MI December 08, 2015 Appliance: Model DDE5300BALWH Dryer caught fire Thanks to the quick shipping and quality parts from Appliance Parts Pros, I was able to replace the faulty cycling thermostat in my dryer. The old thermostat failed catastrophically, igniting a lint ball and nearly burning down my house. Thankfully, our we have good smoke detectors and were able to stop the dryer and clear things out before the situation worsened. The new parts arrived quickly and the install was simple. I also changed the high-limit thermostat. It looked and tested fine, but failed to shut off the heating element when the cycling thermostat changed. It's cheap insurance against another incident. Dale S Grand Rapids , MI March 17, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Electric Dryer DLB1550RAL Electric hotpoint dryer getting too hot I first located the thermostats and removed them. I connected an ohm meter to the terminals and placed them, one at a time, in a cast iron pan on the stove. The cut-off temperatures were printed on the label on the backs of the thermostats. (1 @ 145 degrees and the other @ 258 degrees). I slowly warmed up the pan and watched a thermometer as the temperature rose. The ohm meter may have not been necessary since I could hear the thermostat click when it activated. I took a half dozen tests and came to an average reading. The lower rated activated around 139 degrees. The higher temperature rated thermostat didn't activate to well above 310 degrees. That was the bad one. Since I had ordered both, I went ahead and replaced both of them.
