Jeffrey S Davis , CA January 15, 2018 Appliance: Model KENMORE DRYER Dryer would not shut off at end of any cycle I Replaced the power resistor. The old resistor had a small burnt spot and tested infinity for resistance. The terminals were too small so I had to make new connector. Any 5000 ohm ceramic filled resistor would have worked also. Matthew P Leavenworth , KS March 08, 2017 Clothes dryer was no longer drying clothes and the automatic dry functions had stopped working Replaced the heater coils (one of which was broken) by removing the top, front, and drum to access the heater coils. The plate that the heater coils mount to must be removed from the dryer as well to do the job correctly. I found it easier to unscrew the sensors from the plate and leave the wiring connected. You might as well change the belt while you have the drum out. To fix the automatic dry function I replaced the timer resistor. Very easy to access and swap out. Roger N Venice , FL November 07, 2023 Our cycles would go on forever (read: dangerous for a dryer) The timer and resister did the trick. The knob was a bonus as the old one had a broken ‘socket’ which wouldn’t always grab and spin the post on the timer. The resistor was a just-in-case easy replacement that could also cause cycle timing issues. Works like a charm and the timer is smooth as silk rather than harsh and clunky like the old, broken one. Alfred E Bacliff , TX December 18, 2018 My GE dryer tub would not turn and the timer would not run I had already replaced the timer motor with a new one, but did not fix that problem. The dryer still ran but would not turn off. That may have lead to my next problem of the tub not turning. The motor would run with the start button held down but not the tub. Took the machine apart per the video and the belt was broken. Ordered a new belt and timer resistor because it was next on the possible timer problems. Replace the resister and belt with much difficulty. Reassembled the machine and everything worked as long as you held the start button down. Back to the videos. I suspected something wrong with the motor interlock switch and took everything apart according to the video. The tension arm was not interacting with the switch. During the previous repair attempt, I must have pulled the tension rod out of its holder and away from the switch. Replaced, reassembled and all worked well, even the timer. Without the detail videos, I would not have been able to find the problem and the only next step would be to call the repairman which charges $75 to drive to your house. My repair bill was about $60.
