Description

The carburetor mixes air with fuel so the gasoline engine can run smoothly. This gasket sits between the engine manifold and the carburetor, where it forms a seal so extra air does not enter the carburetor. This gasket also forms a heat barrier between the gasket and manifold, which helps to prevent vapor lock. In order to form a proper seal, a gasket must be made of fibrous material, meaning it is possible that the gasket will tear, in which case it must be replaced immediately. Over the course of frequent use and time, gaskets occasionally wear out and must be replaced to keep the engine running smoothly. Replacing the gasket involved turning off the fuel line or emptying the tank, removing the air filter box, detaching the carburetor from the manifold and removing the spacer and old gasket, seating the new gasket and spacer, making certain the gasket seats properly, then reattaching the air filter box.
