Description
A crankcase seal is what prevents the oil from leaking between the crankcase opening and the crankshaft. It is often found on the engine's front or underside and seals the timing cover to the crankshaft. Oil seals may become damaged or worn with use. Bearing seizures and grinding indicate that the crankcase seal should be replaced. If there is oil leaking from the crankcase or on the crankshaft, a replacement crankcase seal is necessary.Wear gloves and be sure to collect all the tools needed prior to starting a replacement. Replacing a crankcase seal requires Torx wrenches, a container for fuel, spark plug socket or wrench, adjustable or 10-millimeter wrench, rubber mallet, long-nosed pliers, screwdriver, adjustable pliers, socket set, starter rope, 2-cycle engine oil, ignition gapping gauge, and a razor blade.
