This is because.when you press the glass against the cover to get ice or water there is a micro switch that goes bad. To remove the cover, slide the bottom of the cover left or right to remove the cover. Be careful not to lose spring on the back of the cover. There is one screw that holds the microswitch in place. Remove and replace micro switch and then in reverse out the parts back in.
