Chris H Kennesaw , GA March 28, 2016 Appliance: LG Washer WM2032HW Noisy bearings My washing machine had become increasingly loud during the spin cycles and you could feel a slight resistance when manually spinning the drum. I watched the bearing-replacement video on the website which was for a slightly different model with front mounted controls so I also downloaded the service manual to see how to disassemble my specific cabinet and controls. Once I had the washer disassembled and the tub & drum out I determined that bearing seal had failed and water had started to deteriorate just the inner bearing (the outer bearing was still in good shape). The most difficult process was removing the shaft from the rusted bearing. Using PB Blaster as a lubricant, I was unable to free it using either a rubber mallet or hammer & wood block. I wound up buying a rubber-coated 27oz "dead-blow" hammer which took about 20 hard strikes to break it free. Both halves of the tub and the underside of the spider where it connects to the drum were caked in mold and slime so I used a pressure washer to clean up all the parts. During this repair I replaced both the inner & outer bearings, the bearing seal and installed a new tub gasket. I also took this opportunity to replace the door seal/gasket and both inner & outer gasket clamps as it had gotten moldy from years of use. After reassembling the machine works great, is quiet during operation, and definitely clean inside! Read More...
