Leo P Richmond , TX November 11, 2014 Appliance: Model DLGX7188WM My friend's lg dryer stopped working light on when door opens but nothing when power switch was depressed Removed top to access schematics and troubleshooting guide. Followed instructions advising to depress more time, less time and power switch at same time to bring up diagnostics on display. Still nothing on display. Diagnostics advised to replace controller. Problem could have been either the Control Panel assy or the Electronic control board. Since the transformer was on the Electronic PCB I decided it most likely to be the problem. Removing the front assembly cannont be done without removing the top of the dryer but that was held on by only three screws on the back. Once top was removed I found the last of three screws that held the front control panel assy in place. Disconnect all cable connectors and remove front panel from dryer. Then with assembly on flat surface remove two screws holding electronic PCB in place and pry tabs back to separate electronic board. Replaced with new PCB from AppliancePartsPro (ordered on Monday and part arrived on Thursday). Reversed the order to reassemble and problem solved. Saved my friend a bunch of money as she had a repairman estimating it would cost $300 and I was able to repair it with minimal effort at a cost of only $131. Total diagnosis and disassembly took about an hour as I needed to get familiar with the schematic to ensure the "controller" was actually "electronic control PCB" and not the "control panel". Reassembly took about 10 minutes. As with any repair, if the trouble shooting guide does not point to exactly the problem, then diagnostics take a bit of common sense and a basis understanding of electric principles. This LG was my first encounter repairing a dryer with microprocessor-based controls.
