Jered F Somerville , MA February 10, 2017 Appliance: Model WM3987HW Would not turn on Upon removing the top cover of the washer, it was quite apparent that the noise filter had encountered a thermal failure. The plastic housing was cracked and scorched, and the end of the power cord assembly had melted as well. (This is a common failure for this appliance; one wonders why the noise filter has been located directly above the dryer heating element, when there is space for it on the other side of the machine near the control board...) Replacing the noise filter is a matter of two connectors and one screw; the power cord assembly also is only one screw and twisting a plastic retainer through the fitting of the housing.
