Description

This is a replacement lawn tractor shaft worm. The shaft worm, also called a worm screw or vortex rod, is found in the lawn tractor's transmission. The shaft worm is a long shaft with spiral or helical threads on the other end. The shaft's threads will grab and turn a toothed gear. The overall purpose is to produce high torque multiplication and high reduction ratios. The shaft worm is able to reduce engine speeds medium/low engine speeds. When the worm shaft gear turns, it engages with a circular gear. This gear combination allows for a 90-degree transfer of motion. The two types of gears engage in a rolling or sliding action. These movements produce large amounts of friction. This friction creates heat that will, over time, cause the worm gear threads to become worn or damaged. With steel construction, this shaft worm is an OEM part that is sourced directly from the manufacturer. This part is designed to replace the damaged original shaft worm in MTD, Cub Cadet, Yard-Machine, Troy-Bilt, Yardman, Lawn Chief, Craftsman, Remington, Bolens, and Ryobi lawn tractors.
