Description

This is a brake rod extension spring designed for lawn mowers and lawn tractors. The extension spring is a mechanical component crucial to braking. The spring applies tension between the brake rod and the deck brake bracket and holds the brake bracket in place when the brake is off. Extension springs are simple mechanical devices and are subject to wear and tear over time. Repeated stress exerted on the spring may cause it to weaken or to break entirely. If the brakes do not engage when depressed, a broken or deformed tension spring may be the culprit. Replacing the extension spring is a simple job requiring a set of wrenches and pliers. Installing a new spring will require the removal of the rear tire on the same side that the brakes are located. First, take off the two bolts fastening the brake caliper, and disengage the cotter pin and washers from their lever. Next, remove the old spring and replace it with the new one, making sure to refasten the cotter pin and washers after exchanging the springs.
