Description

The governor spring is an important part in a lawnmower engine that holds the engine’s throttle open, while the governor holds it closed. The push and pull between these parts keeps the throttle balanced at the engine RPMs that the user wants, relative to the landscape that's being mowed. When a governor spring becomes damaged or disconnected, the engine will no longer run at a consistent speed. The governor spring can be replaced without any additional parts, but the repair will require a screwdriver to remove the air filter and gain access to the springs. There are usually two governor springs within the throttle—a primary and secondary spring—so check both to find which is damaged. Once the damaged spring has been identified, unclip it from the throttle and the housing and replace it with a new spring. This is a genuine OEM replacement part shipped directly from Honda, the original manufacturer, but it also works with Toro, MTD, and Cub Cadet mowers.
