The Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It regulates the automatic defrost cycle, which helps maintain optimal cooling and preserving food freshness inside the fridge. The defrost timer controls when the refrigerator exits cooling mode to enter a brief defrost period, preventing the buildup of ice on cooling coils. 10hr/35min timer.
Causes of a bad defrost timer can be normal wear and tear over time, exposure to wet environments, or accidental damage.
Symptoms of a bad defrost timer include:
- Inefficient or inconsistent cooling inside the fridge
- Ice accumulation on refrigerator walls or coils
- Condensation or water pooling in compartments or drawers
- Loud buzzing or clicking noises emitting from the back of the fridge
This is a genuine OEM part that works for some models of GE, and Hotpoint models.

Would not defrost automatically freezer compartment kept freezing up causing frige to not cool Jimmy S. • Jackson , MS • October 26, 2014
Order a new defrost timer from ApplianceParts online. I received the parts in a couple of days, installed it and that completely fixed the problem. Thanks ApplianceParts for such fast, efficient service; and for a part that was very reasonably price, not to mention the ease in finding it on your website by using the model number of my fridge. Couldn't have been easier.

This PTC start relay mounts on the refrigerator compressor and briefly energizes the start winding, then automatically opens as it warms. Replacing a weak relay helps restore reliable compressor starts and consistent cooling. What it does:
- Provides momentary power to the compressor's start winding at startup; the PTC element opens as it heats
- Helps ensure smooth compressor starts and reduces repeated start attempts
- Signs of a failed start device can include no cooling because the compressor won't run
- Clicking or buzzing from the compressor area every few minutes
- Compressor starts intermittently or stops shortly after starting
What's included:
- Includes: 1 PTC start relay
Install notes:
- Disconnect power and pull the refrigerator forward to access the rear service area
- Remove the rear panel to reach the compressor compartment
- Unplug the wire harness and pull the old relay straight off the compressor terminals; note its orientation
- Push the new relay fully onto the compressor prongs, reconnect the harness, reinstall the panel, and restore power

The compressor was clicking on and off refrigerator was blowing hot air inside Steve F. • Sealy , TX • May 27, 2017
I bought this relay switch and it works great. On the left side of the compressor there is a plastic cover you pry off with a screw driver. The relay switch had one wire plug on it. Just pull the wire off and the pull the relay switch off the compressor.

This defrost thermostat is a clip-on, bi-metal safety control for the freezer evaporator. Replacing a failed thermostat restores proper automatic defrost, helping prevent heavy frost buildup and temperature swings in the fresh food section.
- Monitors evaporator coil temperature and opens the defrost circuit when the coil warms to the cutoff point
- Helps prevent excessive frost that restricts airflow and reduces cooling performance
- Common failure symptoms: persistent frost on the evaporator, poor cooling/warm fridge, unit running longer than normal, or defrost heater staying on too long
- Mounts on the evaporator tubing; closes when cold and opens as the coil warms during defrost
What's included: One defrost thermostat Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; use proper PPE
- Access the evaporator by removing the rear freezer panel
- Note wiring positions; make secure, insulated connections per appliance service guidelines
- Clip the thermostat firmly to the same coil location/orientation for accurate sensing and reassemble panels before restoring power
