This door-activated plunger light switch controls the interior lamp by turning it on when the door opens and off when it closes, restoring proper interior illumination and preventing lights from staying on or failing to light. What it does:

  • Detects door position and completes the circuit to power the interior light when the door opens.
  • Replaces a worn, stuck, or broken door light switch that prevents the lamp from turning on.
  • Common symptoms: interior light does not turn on, light stays on continuously, or light works intermittently.
  • Simple, direct replacement for the door-mounted lamp switch assembly.
What's included: One door-activated plunger light switch. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power or unplug the appliance before servicing to avoid electrical shock.
  • Access the switch from the door liner or hinge area; basic hand tools (screwdriver) are typically required.
  • Handle the switch and wiring gently; confirm correct wiring orientation before reconnecting power.

Jeff, the door switch would need to be tested for continuity. If it does not have continuity when the door is open, it has failed. If there is continuity, the socket would need to be tested for voltage when the door is opened. If there is not voltage, the main control has failed. If there is, the bulb or socket has failed.

Hello Rob, As always the first step is to remove the power supply to the unit. You will need to remove the main top to access the back of the switch. Be sure to pull the wires up so they do not drop too low to retrieve then depress the two metal spring clips on the outside of the switch to allow it to pass back through the front frame hole. Reverse the process to install the new one.
