The Light Bulb (40W) is an OEM component for GE refrigerators. As an essential task lamp, it illuminates the interior of the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

All light bulbs will eventually burn out with consistent use over many years. Vibration during compressor cycles can also potentially disrupt bulb filaments faster.

Symptoms of a burnt out refrigerator light bulb include:

  • Dim or no light illuminating inside refrigerator shelves
  • Shadows and dark spots making it difficult to find items
  • Higher utility costs from leaving the door open to see inside

This bulb is also compatible with refrigerators from brands like Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Light Bulb (40W) (Part Number: OEM7788345)

Hello Richard, there is no difference functionally between a clear or frosted light bulb, a frosted bulb just gives more of a diffused light as opposed to the stark light from a clear bulb, if there is a light cover over the bulb it makes less difference. [(AP3860383] is a 2 pack of replacement clear bulbs for your model.

Mary W for Model Number J HC56 OV 1WH

My electric range is an old model. I moved into this house new with appliances in place. That was in 1978. I know this is a long time ago. Now, however, after being a perfect stove all of this time, I am unable to find a light bulb for the lower oven (there is an overhead oven as well) that will stay lit. I called a local GE appliance guy and he said that it was probably the wrong kind of light bulb. Since obama changed the type of bulbs we were to use, I do not know what type of bulb to buy. The local GE guy said I should ask for Part #40a15RVL (bulb). Where can I find that bulb? I would be happy to order them from GE if I knew how to go about it. HELP!!!!!

Hello Laua. There is a light shield on the back wall of the freezer. You will remove part number WR17X10765 for the back and the light is behind it.

Hello Beth, You need to verify good electrical connections to the display and if no issues are located, you will need to determine whether the main board is sending voltage to the display board. This can be done with a test meter from J4-1 to J4-2 at the main board. This will be a dc voltage from 18 to 24 Vdc. If the voltage is being sent from the main board, the problem is the display board WR55X10522. If no voltage is there, the issue is the main board WR55X10942C.

Hi Allan, it could be a bad light switch but I would need your complete model number to find the right one for you. You need to get the model number from the refrigerator and not your manual. Thanks!
