Our hood vent is vented to the outside. We noticed that the user guide states that the charcoal filter is for non-vented hood vents only, yet our filter is in the hood. I can only assume the builder should have taken this out. Am I correct? Should I take this part out if ours vents to the outside? I also can't believe that this replaceable part is riveted into a metal carriage, so the only way to replace the filter is to replace the metal part too at $147? That seems crazy. I am hoping you tell me I can remove this part :-) Thanks! Cheryl Buckthorpe

Cheryl, You can remove the charcoal filter for this unit as it is not needed for a unit that is vented to the outside.
