When the dishwasher is turned on, the delay timer continuously runs and the Select button will not cycle through the options. Tried a control reboot. This cleared the problem with the delay counter, and the select button would cycle through all but the speed and rinse options. After a couple of times through, the select button would stop on Normal and the delay counter would start to run continuously again. Would this problem be an issue with the Display Board?

1 Answer

Bulldog, The most likely cause for the issue that you are having would be caused by a faulty control board in which the button has failed. The part number is WD21X10389.

Mike, With the pump working being connected by other wire connection and working in diagnostics then the issue would be a faulty controller.

Andrew, First check and make sure the blue, black, and white wires aren't broken or frayed at the bottom of the door assembly, and there are no lose connections at the control board. If all checks are OK, Yes you'll need to replace the control board WD21X10389 .

Hello Mark. With some buttons working and others not, you will need to replace the control WD21X10389. It could have been a power surge that shorted out the unit.

Ted for Model Number GE GLD696TSS-00 Dishwasher

After the dishwasher finishes a cycle, and gets turned off, it will not come on again. However, if I turn the power off (at the breaker) and back on again (even leaving it off only a few seconds), the green light of the ON button comes back on, and then we can Select the cycle and the dishwasher runs through perfectly normally. The (skimpy) user manual says that turning power off for 30 seconds will reboot the control. I'm guess that the control panel has simply gone bad and needs replacing. Do you guys think this is the case? If so, how hard is it to replace? Thanks -Ted

Ted, The issue could also be a stuck or collapsed keypad WD34X11644 causing the electronic controls to remain "locked up". when you remove and reset power to the dishwasher, the board will reset and accept a new command, then "lock up" again. It's an involved process, several parts will need to be removed to access the control board and panel, but it's relatively easy with the proper tools. If you need to repost and attach an e mail address and we can send you some illustrated service information.

This dishwasher - 1 drains, 2 fills, 3 Wash motor does not start (this is the problem), 4 completes cycle but no wash motor. I heard the small relay go 'click' for action 3 which indicated the motor should start. Since it didn't I bought a new motor and installed it. Dred...it still didn't start. Does this suggest a new control assembly or power board assembly. or something else? Can I check the old motor just by putting 120vac to it and see if it runs?

1 Answer

Dave, Yes you could put 120 vac to the wash motor to see if it runs. What you want to check is the make sure that there is no damage to the wiring from the control board to the motor. Check at the control board to make sure that the control board is sending power to the motor. This issue does sound like it would be a bad control board issue WD21X10357.
