Bob, You will want to check to see if the slides are sliding up and down properly and if the slides are not damaged then this will most likely be an issue with the motor on the unit.

My moms blower/exhaust device as it quit working. When plugged in, it makes a humming sound. I pressed the button to raise it and it goes up, but then it won't go down. As I mentioned the hum continues. I was able to release the mechanism to let it down again. I also noticed the the blower didn't go on when I attempted to turn it on while the thing was up. I'm not sure if the 2 problems are related. I think it probably needs a new motor but not sure. Thanks

Hello Chris, This sounds like a linkage WB02X10941 to the motor has come loose. Unfortunately, to access these parts the downdraft will have to be removed from the installed position for dis-assembly.

Disconnect the power with snorkel in the down position. 2. Remove the blower and blower mounting plate. 3. Remove 2 screws from the lower front of the blower box. 4. Remove 7 screws from gear motor panel. 5. Lift the snorkel by hand 4 or 5 inches and block it in that position. 6.
