So the freezer is not freezing, the fan and everything else still work, could it be my overload that is out or the relay?

Hello tougi3. No, you need to check for a bad condenser fan motor or dirty condenser coils. If both are good, then it sounds like sealed system failure.

When plugged in I can hear a loud clicking from the motherboard area but no cooling is taking place. I took the run capacitor off to test it, but when doing so I noticed the overload rattles. Is the motherboard and overload in need of replacement? If I replace the overload could that be what is causing the motherboard to click?

Hello Riley, If the relay rattles it is bad. The overload may rattle but this is not a valid test of the overload. The overload can be tested with a resistance meter. If it is the start relay that is rattling, you would need to replace it. If the compressor hasn't got an issue that blows it again in the next few days, the unit will be fixed. If the relay does blow again, it is an indication that there is a winding issue in the compressors' internal motor and the compressor will require replacement.

Compressor won't run. How do I test capacitor, relay on compressor, and overload.

Jim, The capacitor test would be to check resistance and the resistance should fall as it is tested. The overload and relay, you will want to check to see if there is power getting to the overload and relay by checking across the wires for 120 vac. If there is 120 vac then you can pull the overload relay from the unit and test from the back side of the relay right pin to see if there is 120 vac from there to the overload pin hole. If there is voltage then the overload and relay are good no voltage they are bad. The most common thing to fail would either be the relay or the main control board.

Lights work, fan in back works, compressor will not kick in and run. How do I test the start relay and/or the overload. I used a meter and get 0.2 ohms on the 200ohms setting between the pin and the post on the overload. Does this mean its good or bad? On the relay, on the 200ohms setting, between the two pin holes I get 8.1 ohms reading, same between the two post on the relay, 8.1 ohms reading. Is this relay good or bad? The overload rattles when I shake it, does this mean it is bad? Thank you for all your help, looking forward to your reply.
