Symptoms of a bad lid switch include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • The machine not draining or spinning
  • Error codes related to the lid being detected as open
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Bill, To access the washer you will need to remove the 2 screws securing the safety access transition panel. Remove the panel by tiliting it down and pulling straight out. Removed the 2 screws located behind the washer top and pull the washer top forward to disengage top lock. Disconnect the washer lid switch harness and lift the top off. The lid may want to spring open when handling the top.
