Hello Darlene,
You are most likely hearing the drain solenoid engage. This is located on the front end of the pump and motor assembly behind the kickpanel and is completely normal.

Brian for Model Number 3631441591

My Kenmore dishwasher # 3631441591 is not advancing through all cycles. All cycles work done manually with dial. It was working fine then just got hung up yesterday. I tried on different setting....pots/pans....normal wash All the same. It will wash for a while slowly advance then keep washing and the dial will not advance. Is this the timer? Is it a normal repair for this machine? I have had it for 20 yrs. no issue like this. If it is the timer what is involved to replace(difficulty factor)? Thanks Brian

Hello Brian. It does sound like the timer. To replace this part, you have to disconnect the power and remove the inner door panel from the unit. Remove the timer knob. Next remove the control panel cover on the inside. Then you can access the back of the timer and replace the part. They are not real hard to replace.

Hello Donald,

Yes if the timer is not sending power to the pump motor then the unit will not pump the water. If there is power to the pump motor but still not pumping or operating then you would need a new pump or something is clogged in the pump.

Hello Marie, Usually that would indicate that the timer is bad unless it's doing it in a cycle where the timer should stall and heat the water. We would really need the complete model # in order to give a better answer. After the GSD500 there should be a letter and than a few more digits. If you can provide that we'll try to give a more definitive answer. Thanks.
