The Water Filter Bypass is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is used when you choose not to use a water filter in your refrigerator. This bypass plug allows water to flow directly to the dispenser and ice maker without being filtered, ensuring continuous operation even when a filter is not installed.

Causes of a bad water filter bypass can include damage to the bypass plug, clogging from debris, or wear and tear over time. If the bypass plug is not functioning properly, it can disrupt the water flow and lead to issues with the ice maker and water dispenser.

Symptoms of a bad water filter bypass include:

  • Reduced water flow or no water flow to the dispenser
  • Ice maker not producing ice
  • Water leaks around the bypass plug area

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore.

Hello Juliet, and thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn’t list a compatible bypass plug for the model number you provided. In many cases, that’s because the filter system is designed to operate only with a filter installed, relying on at least 20 psi of water pressure to flow properly through it instead of using a bypass.

That’s a good question, Bob. From the manufacturer info available, it looks like this model doesn’t use a bypass filter. What you can try is pulling the filter out and then seeing if water will dispense. If water comes through normally – the filter manifold has a built-in bypass, so you don’t need a separate one. If water doesn’t dispense – then the fridge does require the filter AGF80300704 to be installed.

Drew, This is correct. As long as the water pressure stays high enough to cut the valves off, you should be good.
