The Microwave Door Switch is an OEM replacement part for LG countertop microwaves. It monitors the door position electrically to prevent unsafe oven operation if ajar.

Symptoms of a bad door switch include:

  • Inability to start or pause a cooking cycle unless securely latched
  • Error messages about the door being open
  • Inconsistent detection of open/closed door positions
  • Unreliable contact functioning after extended use

Causes involve normal wear of electrical contacts and internals through many open/close uses. Exposure to moisture intrusion from spills may potentially damage sensitive switch circuitry over time as well.

This genuine LG replacement switch is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore microwaves.

I think I have the same symptoms as others. I can easily get to the switches (by removing vent cover and then a single screw to remove control panel). Here's my question (and it's one about personal safety): Can I remove/replace these switches in a safe way without discharging the capacitor in the machine? In other words, will there be high voltage at any of the switch terminals? I haven't ordered switches yet as I am not sure if I need all three (there looks like there are two "open" switches that are closed when door is closed and then an additional switch which is very near the lower switch.

Richard, You are able to remove the power from the unit and change the switches without discharging the capacitor.

Hello Steve. You will see some plastic clips holding the switch in place. You will flex those (being careful not to break them) and slide the old switch out. Then slide the new switch into the clips to secure it.

Yvon, You will want to check the connections at the control board to ensure that all of the connectors are fully seated especially the ribbon cable. If this checks ok then it sounds like there could be a pinched wire or a faulty control panel .

Hello J.A., This sounds like a bad door switch. It is not a difficult repair and the unit will not have to be removed from its' installed position to perform the repair. You will need both top and bottom switches (3B73361E X two), and the center switch 3B73362F.

Hello Microwaverepair. It has to be the control board if all the other parts are testing good on the unit.
