Robert S for Model Number RF265AARS/XAA-0000

The temperature control buttons on the panel at the top of the fridge do not work. None of the buttons on the panel appear to do anything. The one on the left reads 88 and the one on the right blinks back and forth between 88 and 8Y. The fridge still works, though. The refrigerator maintains a good temp and the freezer is actually a little too cold: -20 F . The ice maker stopped working too, but it works when you use the reset button. This happened after a power glitch. It did go back to normal after a few days but the ice maker never recovered. Now its back to the 88 and no sound. Is it the user control board or a main circuit board?

1 Answer

Robert, The flashing side would be an error code that would normally be caused by a faulty thermistor. You will want to check the thermistors in the unit and if they check ok then the main board would be the issue.

Andy, This would most likely be a stuck key on the control panel and the only way to get the control board is to get the table assembly DA97-04901C.

Hello Matt, You should actually run a diagnostic program on it and see what codes are stored. This is the most accurate way to pinpoint the issue and to prevent throwing parts at it. Self-diagnostic function during normal operation: 1) If Power Freeze Key + Power Cool Key are pressed simultaneously for 6 seconds during normal operation, the temperature setting display will operate for 2 seconds (ALL ON/OFF 0.5 sec each). If Power Freeze Key + Power Cool Key are pressed simultaneously for 8 seconds (including above 2 seconds), self-diagnostic function will be selected. 2) At this moment, self-diagnostic function will be returned with buzzer sound 'ding-dong'. If there is an error, display of error will be operated for 30 seconds and then return to normal condition whether problem is corrected or not. 3) Input by button is not acceptable during self-diagnostic function. The unit will display codes by lighting a segment of one of the LED's on the display. This will indicate the component causing the alarm to sound.

The one on the left reads 88 and the one on the right blinks back and forth between 88 and 8Y. The fridge still works, though. The refrigerator maintains a good temp and the freezer is actually a little too cold: -20 F which makes ice cream almost impossible to scoop (and I'm sure uses way more energy than necessary).

1 Answer

Hello Espri. Try resetting the unit by unplugging it for a bout 20 minutes. If it continues to do this, you will need to replace the user interface on the unit.

Tawana, The main control board on your unit has most likely failed if the unit is not working at all. The part number for the main control board is DA41-00413B.

Bill, You will want to check the evaporator coils in the freezer to see if they are impacted with ice. If they are then you have a defrost issue in which you will need to check the defrost sensor and the defrost heater. IF they both check ok then the control board would be the issue. If the coils do not have a full frost pattern but just a little bit of frost on the upper part of the coils then the issue would be in the sealed system.

Amit for Model Number Samsung RF265AARS/XAA refrigerator

Hello. My Samsung refrigerator has a power cool option that keeps turning off and on at random. While the power cool light is lit I'm unable to manually turn it off via the power cool button nor am I able to use any of the other buttons on the user control panel. I have replaced the main board on the refrigerator and was thinking about replacing the user control panel pcb board (Part # DA41-00412A) next. Any ideas of what the problem may be if its not the display pcb board? Both the fridge and freezer are holding their temperature without any problems. The only temperature change I see is the temperature starts to drop when the power cool is activated - which is normal. Thanks in advance!

1 Answer

Amit, This issue would be caused by either a bad display board or caused by an issue with loose wiring connections at the top of the door.
