Questions & Answers

For Samsung Refrigerator Door Switch (Part Number: OEM12410889)

1 Answer

Bill, if the main control DA41-00651T senses the doors are open, it can prevent the ice maker from creating ice. As the door switches tested good, the most likely cause of failure would be the main control.

Jessie, Make sure that the auger in the bin is not seized up due to ice blockage. If this is ok then you will want to test to see if there is voltage to the auger motor. If there is no voltage, check the wiring at the top of the door hinge and if it is good then it sounds like the display would be the issue.

Gene for Model Number RF28JBEDBSR/AA

I am trying to bypass the door reed switches using magnets while the doors are open. (I need to test the evap motor while it is running.) The magnets are strong, but it doesn't work. The lights stay on when I place the magnets over the spot indicated for the reed switches. The reed switches work when I close the door so it is not a problem with them. I know they work because I put my phone inside the fridge and on video while I close the door. The light goes out. Is there some other method to trick the fridge into thinking the doors are closed when they're not, so I can access the interior while it is running?

1 Answer

Gene, depending on the magnet being used, it may have the same polarity that the reed switch would have. The magnet may need to be flipped around. Oftentimes, a refrigerator magnet is all that is needed.

Brenda, this would be caused by a temperature issue in the freezer or an air leak. The seal around the dispenser chute and the ice bin would need to be inspected for any gaps that could allow warm air to leak through. In regards to a possible temperature failure, a thermometer would need to be used to verify that the temperature in the freezer is as close to 0°F as possible in comparison to the set temp. If the temperature is correct, the likely failure would be in the main control DA92-00420S.

Peter, This could cause the issue, I would suggest checking the switches with a multimeter for proper continuity.

Jag, when replacing the reed switch DA34-00043B, it would be recommended that the refrigerator power cord is unplugged first. This will significantly reduce the chance of damaging the main control. The connector of the switch has a press tab that would need to be pressed to unlock the connection before pulling it away from the cabin harness. The cabin harness would not be able to pull any farther than where it is originally. Damaging this wire is not repairable and can cause further issues.

Terry, You will want to check to make sure that there is power getting to the light assembly and if there is not then this will be a main control board issue.

Justin, It is possible that the reed switch is making intermittent contact but it would be more likely that there is an issue with the control board causing the lights to flicker.
