Hi Bill. This is the latch assy. that you need. Latch, Assembly Door Item Number: WP22004435. The FL code is failed lock. Make sure the unit is level front to back and side to side. Lock the level legs. So in the future the machine does not allow the door strike and latch to misalign. Thank You.

Gerald for Model Number Maytag MAH5500BWW ser. A2901574CJ

Two door latch assemblies are listed. Which one is for my ser. no.? Any ideas on why this part has failed 3 times in the past 10 months? The original lasted nearly 10 years. I replaced it and that one only lasted 4 months. The supplier replaced it under warranty and the replacement only lasted 6 months. They claim there has to be something else wrong with my machine, but the new latch assembly has fixed it each time. The failure symptoms were always exactly the same. The actuator locks the door, but then doesn't hold. Gives a 'do' code and eventually a 'FL' code. It keeps clicking and buzzing while trying to lock the door. It starts out by making several attempts before it finally latches. Eventually it gets to the point where it will not latch at all. The current one will still latch but it is taking more and more attempts each time.

Hello Gerald. Based on the model and serial number you provided, WP22003593 is the correct door latch assembly. Check and see if there is water getting on the latch assembly and is shorting it out over time. Also, try not to start and stop the washer once the cycle has started. Hope this helps.
