This refrigerator drip pan, also called an evaporator drain pan, mounts on the base to catch defrost water and allow it to evaporate. Replacing a cracked or warped pan helps prevent puddles and moisture damage around the appliance. What it does:

  • Collects water from the defrost cycle and holds it for evaporation using condenser/fan airflow
  • Helps keep water off the floor and out of the cabinet base area
  • Typical failure symptoms include water under or behind the refrigerator, recurring puddles after a defrost cycle, visible cracks/warping, or musty odors
  • Restores proper fit when the original pan is damaged, heat-distorted, or missing
What's included:
  • 1 refrigerator drip pan
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and pull the unit forward to access the rear; wear gloves and use caution around sharp metal edges
  • Remove the lower rear access panel; carefully lift and remove the old pan from its supports
  • Clean the area; transfer any pads or clips from the old pan if present; seat the new pan fully on the supports/locators so it's level and secure
  • Reinstall the rear panel, return the refrigerator to position, restore power, and check for correct placement after the next defrost cycle

Joking, to change the drip pan, the doors will need to be taped shut securely because the refrigerator will need to be tilted forward (it would be recommended to have an assistant with this) where the back is at least 4" up. With the back lifted up, there are Torx head screws at the base where the bottom connects to the frame along where the compartment cover sets that will need to be removed. Once these are removed, there are some Torx screws under the pan that will need to be loosened and carefully lower the base pan (careful to not kink any of the sealed system lines), and then remove the hex head screws holding the condenser fan mount to the base pan. The condenser fan mount will need to be removed, allowing the drip pan to be removed and changed out.

Hello Mike. To remove the drip pan, unplug the refrigerator or disconnect the power. Remove the rear cover from the back of the unit. Tilt the condenser fan side of the cabinet. Remove the 2 Torx screws securing the base pan to the cabinet and drop down the base pan. Lift the condenser line out of the evaporation drain pan bracket. Release the 2 evaporation pan tabs inserted into the cabinet. Lift the pan out and remove. The fan motor shroud will twist counter clockwise to remove.

Don, To replace the drip pan of this unit you will have to tilt the unit forward and remove the lower cover in the back of the unit. You will then remove the screws holding the base in place to get the drip pan out.

Larry, Normally the refrigerator will have issues with the cooling if the condenser fan is not working. You will want to pull the unit out to see if there is a bad fan on the unit.

Larry, If the condenser fan was inoperable, you'd notice the temperature inside the compartments start to slowly rise. The frame around the compartment openings, where the door gasket seal against the cabinet, would also become very warm to hot to the touch. Check and make sure the rear compartment cover is properly installed and attached to the back cabinet, and the front kick plate isn't blocked by carpeting or floor mats, clogged with debris or animal hair, etc. Check the defrost pan, there may be a couple of tablespoons of water but the fan and air movement should evaporate the water in a day or so. You can also add a tablespoon or so of chlorine bleach to the pan, it may help ?

Hello Shaser. The W10655367 drip pan is located and accessed through the back of the refrigerator. You'll need to remove power to the refrigerator, move the refrigerator away from the wall, remove the lower compartment cover and look for cracks in the pan. But you are right, drip pans don't usually crack or leak on this type refrigerator. It's more likely to have a clogged defrost drain pan inside the freezer compartment, when the defrost occurs, instead of the water draining to the pan, it flows out the bottom of the evaporator cover(back wall of the freezer) and out the front of the freezer and onto the floor.
