The infinite switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool cooktops. Located inside the panel it helps monitor temperature and functions through sensing heating elements and bake cycles. Precise cooking depends on its calibrated feedback.

Causes of a faulty cooktop interface switch include wire damage from heat exposure, excess baked-on residue insulating contacts, or repeated temperature fluctuations degrading components.

Symptoms include:

  • Inability to preheat or maintain set cooking temperatures
  • Failure to advance cycles or randomly turning off
  • Error messages flashing on the control panel

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

1 Answer

Trish, If you test the switch on the 2 wires going to the element for 240 Vac. If there is proper voltage then this will be a faulty element and if there is not proper power then the switch is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Jose Escardo for Model Number je@adprosinternational.com

My range model is C236B serial number 12219707HB. "I ordered a infinite control switch for my Jenn-Air range. The part that arrived (W10894483 as replacement) has six electrical connectors, three on one side, two on the opposite side and one adjacent to the side with the three connectors. My original switch only has three on one side and two on the opposite side, none on the adjacent side to the one with three connectors. Is there a wiring diagram to resolve the wiring discrepancy between the number of connectors from one part to the other?" Thanks.

Jose, Due to a change in the design of the switch, this switch will not work for your unit and the switch for your unit has been discontinued with no suitable replacement available.

Hello Dalip, the original top burner infinite switch (703650) has been subbed by the manufacturer to switch W11120791, however, the internal operation of this switch is not compatible with the cooktop burner wiring design of your J/A stove. There is no current infinite switch (that we are aware of) that will allow the burners to function correctly.

Bob for Model Number C306

This question pertains to the Jenn-Air model C306 downdraft six burner cooktop. One of my cooktops (front center) will only heat to high, no matter what setting the control knob is set (Lo > High). I swapped two of the cartridges to verify whether the problem was in the cartridge or the switch. With that in mind, it appears the issue is with the switch, not the cartridge. I believe the fix for this is to replace the infinite switch. Can you please advise the correct part number required for this repair? I realize this cooktop is quite old and it's not clear to me if the part is still being manufactured. I am trying to avoid ordering the wrong replacement part. Thanks.

Steve, This switch should be the low profile switch that will have the terminals on the side.

Horsebrad, the switch WPW10185287 would be used for the dual burner on your model. Unfortunately, as this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer, we would not be able to recommend an alternative.
