Mohammad, Based on the information provided the defrost thermostat is either on or off switch therefore the wire position would not matter, ( you could do color for color just to be uniform).

David for Model Number ED22PEXHB02

I recently installed the W10822278 Defrost Timer for my Whirlpool (Model ED22PEXHB02). The new defrost timer only works part of the time, meaning some of the time the refrigerator will enter defrost mode and exit the mode normally. Other times it enters defrost mode and never exits. When this happens I don't hear the 'ticking' from the defrost timer module. If I give the panel underneath the defrost timer a firm knock with my knuckles the refrigerators starts right up. Any suggestions?

David, if the timer W10822278 is receiving voltage from the thermostat WP2198202 at the time of failure and the timer does not continue to cycle, it would need to be replaced. However, if the defrost timer does not receive voltage from the thermostat, the thermostat would be the cause of failure.

Harry, if the original defrost timer has a white wire at terminal 3, the black wire would need to be placed at terminal 1. If it does not have a white wire, the black wire would be placed at terminal 2.
