The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool washers, designed to control the sequence of operations in your washing machine, from filling with water to spinning and draining. This mechanical device determines the duration of each cycle, ensuring your clothes are washed under optimal conditions for the selected settings.

Causes for timer malfunction often involve internal component wear, electrical failures, or corrosion due to moisture exposure. Over time, contacts within the timer can wear out or burn, leading to incomplete or erratic operation.

Symptoms of a bad Timer include:

  • The washer not starting or completing a cycle.
  • Stuck on one part of the cycle for too long.
  • Water not filling or draining correctly.
  • The machine skipping certain cycles or operations.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Devin, You will want to check the lid switch to make sure that it is good and check the drain pump to make sure that it is not clogged. You can also test power to the motor and if there is no power to the motor then will be a timer issue.

Curt, Check the water valve to make sure that the cold water supply is not clogged up with sediment. This will likely be the issue or a bad cold water valve.

Vicki for Model Number LTE6234DQ3

The power to the timer control switch dies. We shake the panel and power seems to reconnect. Like there is a short or something. We unplugged the power to the timer and reset and it work for awhile but stopped again. All we have to do is jiggle it a bit and it starts working again. It seems to disconnect when the machine is being used as it shakes so much! Do you think it is the timer itself, the wiring/power in the unit (that brings the power) or something else? What would you do if you were me? Thank you! Vicki

1 Answer

Vicki, For this issue the most likely cause would be the wiring of the unit. There would most likely be some type of loose connection causing this.

Sofia, If the unit is stopping at the rinse cycle and drains but not spinning then the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty clutch assembly.
