Ponex, Start the washer in a regular cycle, while the washer is filling with water, push the timer knob in, or unplug the power cord from the outlet(do this several times). If the water continues to flow into the washer with the timer off or the cord unplugged from the outlet, you will need to replace the water inlet valve. If the water stops flowing when off or unplugged, you will need to check or replace the water level switch and air dome hose. At present the timer is not likely the issue.

Lea, Your first check needs to be at the lid and the lid switch assembly. Make sure the lid hinges and screws are tight and there's no excess play in the lid, then check and make sure the lid switch is not defective or loose in the mounting bracket and top. The washer can fill and wash with the lid open, but will not drain spin. If the switch and lid are OK, then consider the timer.
