Trevor September 20, 2021 for Model Number 11087671800 I have a kenmoore dryer that will start, get hot, then after 5-10 minutes will shut off, and then start back up a while later. It will continue to do this until the timer counts down. We just replaced the dryer cycling thermostat, thermal fuse, and hi-limit thermostat and it's still happening. What could be causing this issue?
1 Answer Hello Trevor, this is a drive motor circuit problem usually unrelated to the heating circuit. Suggest you check if anything is causing the motor to overheat such as the drum being hard to turn, lint in blower wheel, motor bearings tight, etc. There is a temp thermostat built into the motor that if it overheats it will cut off the motor and once cools down will reconnect. 1 Answer Pat, To replace the valve, you would unplug the unit, shut off the gas. Once this is done, remove the lint filter and the 2 screws under the filter. Once this is done pull the main top forward and it should release and lift up. Once you do this you will then remove the lower access cover using a putty knife between the upper and lower panel. Then take the screws out removing the front panel. Once this is done you will then take the belt loose and remove the drum. You will have access to the valve to remove and replace it. Read More...
Sam Patel July 15, 2020 for Model Number 110-87870800 My Kenmore Gas Dryer stopped heating. I checked the thermometer, thermal fuse and thermal heater. They all seem to be working. I then checked the igniter which was burnt out and showed no continuity. I got a new one and now I can see it glowing intermittently. It will glow and go off every 30 seconds or so like its trying to ignite but nothing is happening. The gas is connected and flowing. Any advice?
1 Answer Sam, With the igniter glowing and then shutting off but no ignition then this would either be a faulty gas valve or the coils are faulty. Read More...
1 Answer Jerry, there should be two screws located on the plate that wraps around the top of the coils. Once these screws are removed, the plate will lift up and the coils would be replaced one at a time. Read More...
David January 24, 2020 for Model Number 110.97573230 Hi! I am having a problem with an unidentified source for a gas leak in my Kenmore dryer. I have checked all of the lines and connections, but think the problem is in the gas valve assembly. It's a 20+ year unit and wanted to know a professional's thoughts about this assessment. Is this a part that is known to fail over time? Many thanks and appreciate all of the instructional videos and assistance!
1 Answer David, I would start with some gas leak detector and check the connections at the supply line and work my way to the gas valve. The valve would be the prime suspect due to the fact there is gas going to it all the time, especially if you can smell gas even when it is not running. The part number for the gas valve is [279923] Read More...
Rusty January 03, 2020 for Model Number 11097582100 My dryer works fine, it heats up fine, but as soon as the burner ignites, I get a whistle. Can I be sure its the gas valve itself that needs replacement ?
1 Answer Hello Rusty, access the gas valve and check the orifice for any restriction, such as lint, bugs, webs. Read More...
Vic July 31, 2018 for Model Number 11070952990 I noticed a burning smell coming from my Kenmore propane gas dryer. Then I found it had burned some sheets that were inside after a cycle. There is a spot inside of the container that is now burnt. I opened the front cover plate, and found the pilot light was pretty large and coming in contact with the metal container, heating up that spot until it burned. Would this be the valve in the burner assembly? Thank you.
1 Answer Vic, I would change out your operating thermistor, it should be shutting off before it gets hot enough to actually burn clothes, part number is [WP8577274 ] Read More...

Andy November 28, 2017 for Model Number GGW9250PW3 My dryer wasn't heating. I traced the problem to the coil pack and replaced the coil pack with Whirlpool 279834. Everything works fine now except we have a very faint gas smell (very faint, the gas company took 5 minutes to locate the exact source) coming from near the coil pack. Did I do anything wrong during installation? I noticed there was a silver clip under one of the coils. I tried to move it and it would not move, so I left it alone. What should I do to fix this? I thought of the entire gas valve assembly (Whirlpool 279923), but that is very expensive and I am not sure it would solve the problem. Perhaps a portion of this assembly could solve the problem or maybe I did something wrong installing the coils.
1 Answer Andy, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty gas valve. It sounds as though the valve is not closing off all the way and causing this issue. Read More...
Joe November 13, 2017 for Model Number AGD4675YQ0 I have an Admiral Gas Dryer and noticed that it takes a couple cycles to dry my clothes on the timed cycle. I researched it a little and found out that I might need the primary and secondary gas coils. It didn't look like a hard thing to fix until I took the dryer apart. I couldn't remove the coils because there wasn't any type of bracket holding them on. The screws on the Gas valve were very odd looking because I couldn't get the right screw driver to fit it because there seems to be something in the center preventing any type of insertion. Can the coils be replaced on this type of gas valve? If so how can it be done without damaging the gas valve? Or does the whole gas valve have to be replaced? There is no gas smell and it does fire up. Just not as often as it should. Thanks for your expertise. Joe
1 Answer Joe, The gas valve coil assembly WPW10328463 is available, and in stock. To replace the coils, you need to remove power to the dryer and turn off the gas supply. Raise the top panel and remove the front panel. Use a short"stubby" phillips head screwdriver, remove the two small screws that attach the top bracket to the gas valve body, lift the bracket off the valve, lift the coils off the valve body plungers, revrese the procedure and test the dryer for heat and operation.
