The Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component controls the flow of water into the washing machine during the fill cycle, ensuring that the proper amount of water enters the machine based on the selected settings. The valve is crucial for regulating water levels and maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the washing process.

You should replace the valve if it becomes faulty or malfunctions. Causes of a bad valve can include regular wear and tear from frequent use, mineral buildup from hard water, or damage from electrical issues or surges. These problems can lead to the valve not opening or closing properly, which affects the machine's ability to fill with water.

Symptoms of a bad valve include:

  • Washing machine not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Washer overfilling or water leaking from the machine
  • Inconsistent water levels during wash cycles
  • Strange noises during the fill cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Dan, thank you for contacting APP, I would first recommend to run the Clean Washer cycle and adding affresh W10549845 or a cup of white vinegar to the tub before starting the cycle, also check that the standpipe that the unit drains into is not backing up and only about 4-5 inches of the drain hose is inside of that standpipe with a good airgap around the drain hose. If the issue persists after that then the pressure hose WP353244 may have been damaged or the main control W11419171 is not reading pressures properly.

Satvision, I would start with removing the screws and cover from the back of the control panel, from there you should see the screws and/or clips to remove the cover.

Susan, this would certainly be a water valve W11165546 failure, and replacing this part would cover both the hot and the cold water solenoids.

My Maytag washer started having and issue today, less than 2 years old and barely used. I start a cycle as normal, I hear a click, the tub spins a little, then the door locks and the red light is on showing it's locked. Then when it's in the sensing stage I hear sort of a humming sound when the water should be filling. I'm guessing it's this fill valve and not the pump. I was thinking pump because I would usually hear the pump drain for a few seconds then the water starts to fill.

1 Answer

Joe, I would check and determine if it is the valve or the pump that is humming. If it is the inlet valve humming with no water flow then check the screens to see if they are stopped up.

Hello Crane, the LF code refers to slow water fill into the washtub, if the drain hose is installed correctly and water is not siphoning out, the hot-cold water supply is fully open then replace the washer's inlet water valve assembly W11165546.

Mike, Thanks for the question!!! It is most likely your valve [AP628446] has failed. You can verify this by checking for voltage at the valve connections. When the washer is off you should have no voltage at the valve, if you do have voltage, it would be a failed relay on the control W11400681 or a short somewhere in the wiring W11193817.

Maytag Washer MVWB765FW3 - not getting water. It worked for 2 years, nothing moved or changed. Went away ~4weeks and return to find the machine senses and locks but will not fill. I do hear an electrical hum/buzz when it sounds like it is trying to fill w/water, but getting barely a trickle of cold. I checked all the usual suspects, water supply pressure is good, inlet valve screens are not clogged, lid locks normally, etc. Question, if the water control valve has failed, would hot and cold both go at the same time? I'm reluctant to change the valve only to find out I really needed a control board. Thanks for your advice.

1 Answer

Brian, Check the outlet side of the water inlet valve to see if the water is getting through the valve, based on the information provided it sounds like a valve issue (would need to check to be sure).
