This is a rear trail shield - also called a rear skirt - that mounts to the back of a walk-behind lawn mower deck. It acts as a deflector to contain grass clippings, debris, and small objects thrown by the spinning blade. Replace this shield if it is cracked, missing, or warped, which can allow debris to be ejected from under the deck and create a safety hazard.
