The Whirlpool Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. The defrost timer regulates the automatic defrost cycle, which prevents ice buildup on the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment by sending a signal to the defrost heater to turn on and melt any ice buildup on the coils. 

Causes of a bad defrost timer can include mechanical wear over time, electrical failures, or internal component damage. Prolonged usage and voltage spikes can also affect the timer's functionality.

Symptoms of a bad Defrost Timer include:

• Excessive frost buildup in the freezer compartment
• The refrigerator or freezer not maintaining the set temperatures

This compressor overload is the thermal protector for your refrigerator's compressor. It opens the circuit when the motor overheats or draws excessive current, helping prevent damage and restoring reliable starts when the original protector fails.

• Interrupts power to protect the compressor during overheat or overcurrent conditions
• If failed, symptoms include: compressor won't start, repeated clicking or brief hum then stop, warm refrigerator/freezer, and an unusually hot compressor shell
• A weak protector may trip repeatedly and reset after cooling, causing intermittent cooling

This PTC start relay mounts on the compressor and momentarily powers the start winding to get the motor running, then disengages for normal operation. Replacing a weak relay can stop repeated clicking and help restore cooling.
