Jay R Lexington , MA April 27, 2014 Appliance: Kenmore Microwave 40180083700 Se error code The error code indicated a short in the control panel. I read on the web that this is usually in the touch pad itself, so I ordered that assembly, which doesn't contain the circuit board. To replace it, I removed the 2 screws at the top which hold on the front top vent cover. The cover comes off by sliding it a little to the left and the pulling it out. It's a close fit, and mine was tough to move because of the grease and dust that had accumulated in it, but you actually can get it out without removing the door. Removing it exposes the one screw holding the control panel, and then the panel will pull off. Then you unplug all the connections to the circuit board and unscrew the grounding wire. The circuit board and its metal holder are screwed to the panel assembly, so unscrew the 4 screws holding the circuit board on and remove it, then pop out the metal holder. Then reverse the process with the new panel assembly. Before I replaced it, I also spent some time cleaning the vents and filter behind the vent cover.
