This can cause the engine to seize up or overheat. Therefore, it's important to change out an engine's oil filter after every three to six months. This is an easy fix and should be done whenever the oil is changed. Simply unscrew the old filter and reattach the new filter. Be sure to drain any old oil before making the switch.
