This is a carburetor bowl. It holds the gas that is mixed with air before it enters the engine. The carburetor bowl contains a float which regulates the amount of gas needed to mix and fuel the engine.There are times when the carburetor in of itself is considered in good working order but the bowl may be compromised. This can happen if the bowl has been corroded. Rust will damage the carburetor bowl and render it ineffective. When replacing the carburetor bowl, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and to wear the proper gear when handling engine parts. Once the carburetor is free from the engine, unscrew the bowl from the unit over a catch pan. Any contents will fall into the pan.
