This replacement valve seal is a genuine OEM part for a lawn tractor or mower. The valve stem is a type of valve that transfers oil into the cylinder and then immediately reseals due to the pressure in the chamber. However, if the seal is damaged, it will not close and oil will leak into the cylinder. If this happens, the cylinder head may become overly lubricated and not run well. This seal helps prevent that from happening. It fastens to the intake valve and valve stem keeper. Seals will naturally wear out over time due to stress and exposure to corrosive oxidizing agents in an engine. When this happens, the valve will leak oil. To test if the valve seal is compromised, look for whitish-grey smoke that indicates burning oil and also measure to see how much oil the engine is consuming. If the seal is breached, use a screwdriver and socket wrench set to change out the part.
