Replace a broken torsion spring causing handle slack or engagement issues on your lawn mower. Common DIY repair restores proper tension and operation.
This is a flanged lock nut. It’s designed to apply tension, typically on a joint that needs to have a certain amount of flex. As such, it’s mostly used on snowblower chutes and lawnmower handles. They can remain in place, but with a forgiving connection that can take a beating. The nut size is 3/8, with a thread size of 16. A lock nut will generally last for many years. However, the silicone ring inside will wear down if it’s frequently tightened and loosened. It needs to be replaced when it will no longer reliably remain in place. Generally, this begins as a symptom of slight slippage and worsens as time goes on. Thankfully, whether it’s being used on a snowblower or a lawnmower, this nut is generally straightforward to access. Simply unscrew the old nut, then screw the new nut on until it’s nice and tight. Our flanged lock nuts are genuine OEM MTD nuts, and they are sold individually.

This control handle is designed specifically as a replacement for use on select walk-behind lawn mowers. The control handle is the safety that is engaged to allow the engine to run. When holding the control handle in, the pull start can be activated and the engine will run. Once the control handle is released, the engine will stop. In the event that the control handle becomes damaged or fails, it will need to be replaced so that the mower can continue to be used. This handle can provide a genuine replacement for compatible models. This control handle is manufactured to exact standards by MTD and provides an exact fit. It is compatible with hundreds of models, including select models from RYOBI, Yard Machines, Troy-Bilt, Yard-Man, Husky, Bolens, and Cub Cadet. This part is also known as the control bar, control handle, engine stop handle, bail control, or mower bail. It is made of durable metal and sold individually. No tools are required for the installation of this part. To replace the handle, simply squeeze the existing control handle to remove it from the outer handle, and then align the new handle and slide it into place.
