This is the top panel that covers the upper portion of the dryer cabinet, providing a finished exterior surface and protecting internal components. It attaches to the dryer frame and typically lifts or slides off for service access. Replace this panel if it is dented, rusted, scratched, or warped.

I believe the shock absorbers were bad and caused too much stress on the spring, breaking it. I replaced the spring, spring protector, and shock absorbers. I got lucky; when I got the drum back up where it belonged I saw that the door boot seal straightened itself back out and wasn’t damaged so I didn’t have to replace it.
