This switch regulates the power level sent to a surface heating element on the cooktop, allowing you to adjust the temperature from low to high settings. It connects between the control knob and the burner element to cycle power on and off at intervals that maintain the selected heat level. Replace this switch if a burner only works on one setting, won't turn off, won't heat at all, or provides inconsistent temperatures.
It took about 30 minutes (including the time it took to clean up the junk that had accumulated over the months under the range floor). Easy to do. Just removed about 12-odd screws in order to remove the cosmetic plates/covers the covers, etc., to access the unit, took off one wire at a time from the old unit and connected it to the new unit, then put everything back. Pulled range out. Unplugged unit. Removed four phillips head screws. Unplugged two wires from element. Opened range door and removed two phillips head screws from back of range that held element. Removed two phillips head screws from range ceiling that held the element up. Installed new element with the four screws and replaced the two wires to the element in the back of range and replaced screws, slid range back in place and turned the range on to burn off element and started cooking.
