Having seen the repair men disassemble my oven to replace a light bulb in the microwave/convection section (Yes, that's right!! I can't believe they designed it that way.), I decided to take on this task myself. Access to the broil element is near the light. Okay, so it took me a couple of hours but it saved me nearly $300. I recently shattered the outer glass on my Whirlpool oven door. (Side note for lesson learned...don't swat at a fly with a broom when its on the oven door. I didnt swing hard just a love tap but thats all it took ha ha) The toughest part of the fix was removing the broken glass as it had shattered into hundreds...no thousands of pieces.
