I replaced the controller. I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get to it. The video on the website showed access to the control via the rear panel. On the Kitchen Aid we have, the back panel is part of the range's main frame and does not come off. Turns out, 2 screws behind the fluorescent lamp had to be removed and the entire control panel housing lifts up and can be tilted forward. First I measured the static resistance from the hot and neutral blades on the plug. Using Ohm's Law I found the stove was pulling almost 10 amps with nothing turned on. I took the access panel off the back of the stove to inspect the wiring. It didn't take long to spot the charred suppressor board. Once I removed it I saw a capacitor had broken loose. Looking close I saw another capacitor had ruptured. Time to get a new board. Read more
This is a circular convection heating element located behind the rear panel of the oven cavity. It works in conjunction with the convection fan to heat and circulate air evenly throughout the oven for consistent baking and roasting results. Removed stove back panel, removed fan guard from inside oven, removed 2 attaching screws holding element to rear oven wall. disconnected spade clips from rear side of element contacts ( back side of stove), removed failed element, installed new element and reversed the disassembly process.
