This has happened to several of both our and friends' microwaves made by this otherwise great company. Fixing it this time took three minutes. The first one took 20 minutes. This protective cover shields the microwave's waveguide opening where microwaves enter the cooking chamber. The Motor-Turn is an OEM part compatible with Whirlpool microwaves. Located inside the microwave cavity on the turntable mechanism, the motor-turn contains the turntable motor and drive components.
Causes of a bad motor-turn can include a faulty motor, worn gears or pulleys, or broken turntable shaft.

After research on the internet I concluded that the problem was the turntable motor making the noise. The repair was relatively easy. Just a philips and a star screwdriver was needed. By simply romving the screws from the bottom of the microwave the turntable motor could be removed andvreplaced. The new motor fit perfectly and the grinding noise is gone. Read more
